TWBN - June Edition
Good day, hello, and ‘sup. Thanks for opening this newsletter and at least starting to read it.
June is a big month all around. School’s out, it’s Men’s Mental Health Month, it’s Pride Month, and it’s Father’s Day month. I hope you’re taking care of yourself, and if you’re a gay dad, I hope you took the whole month off work.
Text that friend who’s been going through some stuff and see how they’re doing. The littlest message can help. And if you’re that person who’s going through it, text someone who will go for a coffee and talk. And if there’s nobody, email me back.

Pressing topics of the month
I posted on social media and talked to everyone in the last few weeks about taking some holiday time off, but I cried wolf. We’re not great planners, so when we finally did get our S together, we looked at hotel prices and said some swear words. Then we decided to go in the fall when it’s not as much of a burning circus. Summer is business as usual. Sorry if I made you panic-book.

Next, and speaking of booking ahead, Did You Know it’s possible to get on a recurring schedule? Do you like your hair cut every 4 weeks? Every 17 days? We can do that. The system will remind you and you can set it in your calendar or adjust as needed if you have something important (More important than Seth time? Yeah, right).
If you set up a recurring appointment, I’ll give you 10% off them all. That’s an average savings of roughly $50/year. And if you put that into the right ETF or mutual fund, it can grow to millions. Mill-i-ons. And when you bequeath it all to your family, your grandkids will cry and thank your casket for their secure future, and your child will say, “Don’t thank PopPop, thank his barber, Seth. He’s the real hero. We all owe him a debt of gratitude that we cannot pay, so we should get a street named after him, our firstborns shall all be named Seth, and we will all get ourselves on a recurring haircut schedule and pay it forward.” What naturally follows is generational wealth for all, developing a culture of paying it forward and helping others, eventually resulting in world peace. You’re welcome. It was no big deal, really.
Seth’s Soapbox
I currently have *39* father/son client combos, some with 2 or more sons. Yes, I went through my entire client list to make sure the number was correct. I’m greatly honoured that someone would like their experience enough to bring their son/dad in for a cut. I am where I am purely because of referrals, and I can’t thank you enough.
To the dads: Father’s Day is a very important holiday, and I don’t say that because I’m a father who wants attention. Quite the opposite. I feel that we’ve got it all wrong. Father’s Day isn’t a day when you get to congratulate yourself for bringing home the bacon, shine up your apple and say that you provide for your family so your job is done, then go out golfing with the boys.
And it’s not about your dad. He’s doing fine. He has his pickleball, a mortgage-free house, and his pension. Take him for a steak sandwich someday.
It’s a day to remind us that we’re fathers raising actual humans who become part of this world. It’s a reminder that we need to snap out of it and get back to parenting. I’m not here to tell you how to parent, although I have the right; your kids may grow up to have a role in society that will have an impact on my life and the lives of the ones I love, so I have to hold you accountable. You deserve a rest, but your job isn’t done. Use Father’s Day as a reminder to reconnect with your kids. Take them out and go for a family bike ride or go bowling. Ask them about their lives and what they’re interested in, and be there for them to talk to you. Don’t preach to them, just be there for them. The best way to make a better world is to raise honest and caring people.
Be a better father. Even if you’re the best one there is, and your mug tells you so, there’s always room for improvement. And if you know you’re not great, it’s not too late to start being a better one.
And if your kids have kids, well the damage is done. But you can be a good Grandpa. Go hang with your grandkids and ask them about what they’re into, without judgement, and have them show you. It’s probably not golf or pickleball, so you’ll have to step outside of your comfort zone.
This all goes for the uncles, big brothers, Big Brothers, father figures, coaches, et al.
It’s a different world now, and their generation is not the same as ours, and definitely not the same as our parents’. It’s not our kids’ jobs to live the way we want them to, but our job to understand the way they want to live.
Speaking of not preaching, let’s move on. There’s a barber out of Philadelphia who has an informative blog, and recently they wrote about hair loss. Go read it! Read More. There are various topics you may find neat, kinda what I set out to do with this one, but I got in my own way. The linked article is about hair loss and is it stress related? Click and find out! Better yet, quit your job then click the link and find out! If you hate your job, I promise to give you free haircuts until you find one that makes you happy.
That’s it for this month. I’ll try harder for a stupid story next month. This one’s been a doozy and I haven’t had the time, you know? Oh and Cam said they’re too long. So blame Cam for being the funbuster.
Anyway,
Be a better dad, be an ally, be nicer to yourself.
To quote the greatest GOAT of all time:
As always, feel free to come and vent in my chair. Or come and enjoy the silence. Closed eyes means “I’d rather not talk today”. (More like, ”I’d rather not listen to you today, Seth. Just cut my hair and get me outta here.”)
With spot-on timing, my favourite musician released a song this week about hanging out with a friend going through some stuff but not knowing what to say. Petey is the best.
